ECC Rater FAQs

What is a ECC Rater?

A ECC Rater (Energy Code Compliance)  is a state-certified professional who verifies that a home’s energy features meet California Title 24 requirements. We perform required on-site testing and submit compliance documentation to the appropriate registry and building department.

When is a ECC Rater required?

A ECC Rater is required for many new construction, additions, remodels, and HVAC or water heater replacements in California when energy efficiency measures must be verified under Title 24. Your permit or building department will specify when ECC  verification is needed.

Are you CHEERS certified?

Yes. We are CHEERS-certified, one of California’s approved HERS providers. All required testing and documentation is submitted through the CHEERS registry in accordance with state regulations.

What tests are performed?

Depending on your project, testing may include:
Duct leakage testing
• Refrigerant charge verification
• Airflow and fan watt draw testing
• Blower door testing
• Water heater and mechanical system verification
Only the tests required for your specific permit are performed.

When should testing be scheduled?

Testing should be scheduled before drywall is installed for rough inspections and after system installation for final verification. We recommend scheduling as soon as equipment is installed to avoid inspection delays.

How long does testing take?

Most tests are completed in 30–90 minutes, depending on the size of the home and the scope of work.

How fast are reports submitted?

Required ECC documentation is typically submitted within 24 hours after successful testing.

What if a project fails?

If a test does not pass, we clearly explain what needs to be corrected. Once corrections are made, we return to re-test and verify compliance so your project can move forward.

Are you insured and EPA certified?

Yes. We are fully insured and EPA Section 608 certified for refrigerant handling, ensuring safe, compliant, and professional testing.
